Welcome to the Kat and Moose podcast, I'm Kat and I'm Moose This is a true life podcast or we explore the quirks of being human. Everybody take a deep breath.
00:00:21.359 --> 00:00:39.570
Two, three, hold 2323 hold two, three. Hey, cat. Hey, Max, how you doing? You're over there in your tank top showing off some of your body.
00:00:41.908 --> 00:01:03.448
out on the water today. Oh, thank you. It's because I've literally been in the sun for like the past four hours. I decided on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to take the boat out with my family. So I had a bunch of wild animals swimming in the water. And by that I don't mean dogs. I mean little boys.
00:01:05.099 --> 00:01:08.189
did. Did your nephew get the itch at all?
00:01:08.939 --> 00:01:12.090
Um, you know, he got the itch.
00:01:08.939 --> 00:01:12.090
We met some friends out there.
00:01:12.090 --> 00:01:18.060
And so he got the itch when he first met this one friend. And I said, Well, that's one way to present yourself.
00:01:20.609 --> 00:01:25.379
Listen, I've got an itch that I can't scratch as well. What is it?
00:01:25.560 --> 00:02:02.730
And did you get it on the cruise? Oh, listen, oh my gosh. So the cruise was fabulous, by the way, but on the last day, it's a it's a one. I put this in quotes. If you're watching this zoom patrons. It's a 100% vaccinated, which basically means everyone except kids, you know, who can't be vaccinated are and then everyone, including vaccinated people had to do a COVID test, you know, and prove they were negative. But on the last day of the ship, they did announce there was a positive COVID test from someone who was vaccinated.
00:02:03.480 --> 00:02:11.280
So there you have it, but don't worry. I'm in your home so they let you off the ship. Oh, yeah.
00:02:08.069 --> 00:02:23.099
No, they actually, I mean, everybody's vaccinated. So it's like, I guess that they did all the contact tracing aware of this one person was they kept them quarantined. But so far, so good.
00:02:23.819 --> 00:02:58.080
Can you imagine what it was like for that one person who was like tracked down and quarantined It was like, you will stay in this state room and you will like it. So here's the thing is they said they were quarantined in the medical facility, which is like on the first floor, and the bowels of the ship, like right as you walk out the main door. I know. It's like, thank God, maybe they knew they were positive, but they were just like, screw it. I'm gonna enjoy the cruise. Anyway, it was a really fun cruise. Got to see lots of whales and orcas and things that you see, including.
00:02:59.430 --> 00:03:02.460
What are they called? glaciers?
00:02:59.430 --> 00:03:15.330
Did you know A glaciers in between two mountains? No, I didn't. I thought it was just a bigger iceberg. But it's basically where the snow freezes between mountains. And then it's sort of like a frozen waterfall.
00:03:15.360 --> 00:03:17.669
And that was insane to see a couple of those.
00:03:18.030 --> 00:03:23.009
Wow. Now did you get to see any of the glaciers as they broke off and fell into the ocean?
00:03:23.039 --> 00:03:39.060
No, but there was lots of chunks of ice as we went. So I, I like played out Titanic and I grabbed an old man and I put my arms around him to make him really uncomfortable. And I started singing my heart will go on.
00:03:39.180 --> 00:03:46.800
Can Can Sarah, please. We just give us the Titanic, like intro of the best Celine Dion song that's ever been recorded?
00:03:50.039 --> 00:04:02.039
You know what's funny, I saw a listing of like the top 10 grossing movies of the past 30 years or something. And Titanic was still like in the top 10, which I think is amazing. Yeah.
00:04:02.069 --> 00:04:38.970
And I remember that was the first movie. And I was really into movies like growing up, but I was in college when that came out. And we went like five times to see it. Hmm. I didn't like I we were just all obsessed with how real it seemed. And it felt so connected to our heritage and all of that. But I loved that movie. Did you too. Oh, yeah. I love that movie. And I probably have seen it five times. But I don't remember seeing it the theater and I probably did. In knowing me. I went back just to listen to the thief's. Oh, yeah, sure.
00:04:34.470 --> 00:05:08.579
Yeah. If I if I know myself at all. And yeah, but I agree. I think it's one of the best movies of all time. And it's one of the biggest tragedies of all time. And it's, I think part of the reason that it stands out so much is that it was this really great. This has never happened before. Yeah, no ship and you know it was going to do this great transatlantic passage. And all of that kind of stuff. And then absolute tragedy happened and tons of people died. And, you know, so I mean, it was just kind of like the ultimate story.
00:05:08.579 --> 00:05:46.470
And I remember being on the Alaskan cruise that I went on several years ago and seeing icebergs and there was one iceberg that we saw, where there was a bald eagle standing on the top of it. And so that was really cool, because it was kind of like moving along the boat with us. And so just because I was inspired by you guys this trip, like that's the that's so crazy. Like you're for those who are not patrons. It's$5 you guys got this. But cats holding up an iceberg and they were saying like, what you see on top we know this, but it was fascinating to see in person.
00:05:43.529 --> 00:06:06.269
And we'll have to post some of our videos on the cat news, Instagram, but um, you know, they said like, you're only seeing 1/7 to 1/10 of what is actually underneath. Which makes sense because how is it pulled it being held up? But yeah, every time we went past like a huge thing of ice, I was like, we're gonna become the Titanic I was.
00:06:08.160 --> 00:06:33.899
Well, and if you think of it, like if you have ice in your drink, which I'm not allowed to do while we record the podcast anymore, but if you have like a an ice cube in your drink, you can imagine kind of how an iceberg Yes, because the ice cube is mostly in the water. And then there's just like a tiny bit of it that pops up at the top. So what was You said you saw a bunch of whales and glaciers, like did you guys do any of those excursion type things?
00:06:34.050 --> 00:06:45.029
Yeah, the probably. We did one in Juneau and it was a whale watching boat ride and a tour of the I'm gonna say this wrong.
00:06:45.029 --> 00:06:49.350
But Mendenhall Glacier maybe. Is that right, sir?
00:06:50.399 --> 00:07:18.899
Yes, you are correct. The Mendenhall Glacier is about 13.6 miles long and is located 12 miles from downtown Juneau, Alaska. The glacier is said to have retreated 1.75 miles since 1929. Subsequently creating Mendenhall lake. The end of the glacier currently has a negative glacier mass balance and will continue to retreat in the foreseeable future reference wikipedia.com it was a glacier and it was big.
00:07:15.389 --> 00:07:38.310
And it was super cool to go out there. And actually, it was it was wild, though. Because the when you were standing in the visitor center, it was like, seemed sort of close. But apparently we were a mile from the actual beginning of the glacier. Oh, wow. And there was a sign that said 10 years it was 10 years ago. So 2010, I guess?
00:07:39.360 --> 00:07:56.579
Or 2011? I don't know one of those. It said the glacier was where we were standing. So in 10 years it had Wow, it had melted that much global warming. Wow, I got you something I want to show you. You did. Oh my gosh. I love when you get me stuff. What did you get me?
00:07:56.670 --> 00:07:59.970
I felt when I saw this. I thought of me.
00:08:01.980 --> 00:08:03.060
Sound like my sister.
00:08:03.750 --> 00:08:10.680
But I wouldn't be like me not to give you something that is isn't normal. So here's what I got you.
00:08:11.879 --> 00:08:24.089
Oh, that's awesome. It's a mousse kitchen scrubber. Okay, I'm gonna cherish that for forever. Good. I might want to actually put it in my shower. Is that okay? Yeah, loofa up here, downtown.
00:08:24.089 --> 00:08:32.009
If you'd like, I knew you could go in there. Just for my mom. I'm not gonna say anything about using it on the downtown folds.
00:08:32.009 --> 00:08:37.739
But I knew I knew I could count on you for that. And that could be like a hashtag like, hashtag.
00:08:38.129 --> 00:08:40.740
I missed up my downtown. I don't know.
00:08:42.389 --> 00:08:52.889
I mean, you could make millions off of that move. That is so kind of you. Thank you for giving me a new scratchy apparatus for my cleanliness.
00:08:53.309 --> 00:10:22.649
Okay, I have to tell you one thing about the cruise that was just really eye opening. I was trying to just like stay present, and work only when I needed to work and all these different things. And I told Sarah I was like, Hey, I think that we should do acupuncture while we're on this boat. And I've done it before. She had never done it. And she was like, I've always wanted to try it. So yeah, whatever. Well, here's the thing. If you have not gone on a cruise, or haven't gone a long time, let me remind you of what is to expect. It's sort of like people put you on this really fancy, amazing food amazing drinks, beautiful views. And then it's just like they rotate you to go to the timeshare events. Like I forgot that like I was like going and just gonna relax and enjoy and listen. I will give if anyone's looking for a cruise to go on Celebrity Cruises, best customer service I've ever had on a cruise. An amazing ship. So anyway We go to the spa to check on acupuncture appointments. And it's the first day and I've already got a massage scheduled, but so they're like, oh, tell me your room number. And that's the key like, like, you know how they talked about? Yeah, the Christians talk about putting the UPC symbol on your forehead.
00:10:19.289 --> 00:10:28.830
That's what it's like on a cruise, you just give them your number, and they've got all of your money, because you have to attach a card, you know? Right.
00:10:28.860 --> 00:10:56.279
So go to the spa, and Dr. Ashish comes out. And he's like, Okay, let's do a consultation. And I immediately am like, Oh, hell, no, you will not control me, you know? And Sarah's, like, Great, let's consult, you know, and so we go into the room, and I'm immediately shut down. And Sarah is hanging on every word, because he's talking about how he can get rid of her pain.
00:10:56.309 --> 00:11:28.379
Yeah. And, and the more specific she gets, the more specific he gets. And they're like, they're like speed dating. And I'm like, a third wheel that's like, this is you know, and of course, his his big pitches, you know, you're not gonna get the same out of one session as you would on a three to five. I cannot break her gaze. I mean, they are like, eyes are like this.
00:11:28.379 --> 00:12:49.169
They're like spellbound with each other. He's already figured out that I am complete critic, not of what he could do, but that he's trying to sell me. So he doesn't care about me anymore. He's complete. I mean, full, they were making love with their eyes and work on what was happening. I believe it and what I want to know is like what ended up happening, I, I sort of left the trance so I I became less interested, it was just like, looking at the corners of the room. And next thing, you know, I'm just following the two of them out, I just was so disinterested, it took like, 20 minutes. So this consultation of him, and he's, he was great for what it's worth. But, you know,$399 later, I have three appointments set up on this. And it's not on Sara, like I at the end, I was just so confused by what happened that I was like, you know, my room number just deducted from my, you know, credit card. But oh my gosh, and then after the third one, he's like, trying to sell me on these freakin vitamins. Like I'm like, Are we on a cruise? Or am I at an Amway convention, you can see here, kind of like on the real live home shopping network, if that's exactly what it was.
00:12:49.350 --> 00:13:07.590
Because, oh, and then I get the massage A few days later, after I finish all of my acupuncture, which by the way, it was great, very relaxing. And I did have some relief. But after the massage, the woman says to me, um, do you want to lose weight?
00:13:09.600 --> 00:13:37.139
No, she did. Yeah. And I mean, like, first of all? Who answers No, even if you do want to be like, you don't want her to be in the community of body work professionals that exist in this world? That is not okay. Why did she say that? She was trying to help me. And I put in quotations? No, that's very judgmental, and it's not okay.
00:13:33.059 --> 00:13:40.230
And so I was like, Oh, I'm on my way. Thank you, though. You know, I was not letting her in.
00:13:40.259 --> 00:14:00.840
And, and then she says, um, I said, She goes, Can I just tell you about some things I have to offer? And I'm thinking, maybe they have to do this or something. And I was like, Yeah, but I'm just not interested. So I was kind of giving her an option. So then she says, We have supplements and devices. So I was interested.
00:14:02.309 --> 00:14:04.409
And now you and she were on a speed dating.
00:14:07.110 --> 00:14:29.700
I just could not picture in my mind, what they would give me on a cruise that I could buy and then like, put in my bag and bring home. And so I ended up bailing, but I'm thinking what kind of device could this be like? Do they so your mouth shut? Do Is it a fire master that packs down? I don't know.
00:14:29.970 --> 00:14:38.519
What are those things that were really popular? If I'm not mistaken, it was back in the 50s that women would have that would jiggle their bellies. Yeah.
00:14:35.610 --> 00:14:44.039
Like, you know, like, try to like break up the cellulite or whatever. I wonder if like, if we're kind of going retro. I wonder if it's something like that.
00:14:44.070 --> 00:14:53.009
I listened. I saw one of those at an antique store once and almost wanted to buy it just because of my quirky feminist.
00:14:53.309 --> 00:15:03.299
You know, thought and I'm like, we're in hells bells. What I put that, you know, yeah, so I didn't buy it. But yeah, that In the shake Wait, those are probably the two smartest one.
00:15:03.299 --> 00:16:02.909
Yeah, man. Well, I'm sorry that she said that to you. And I though I believe everyone deserves multiple second chances. I would like to shame and shun her is someone who is studying to be a part of the bodywork community because like, that's just not an okay question to ask like, no, not cool. I know. It makes me think of my conversation with Becky this past week like Becky and I've obviously been working a lot more together. Now that you know that she asked you if if you were trying to lose weight. It was kinda like Oh, God, Becky got fire. Well, no, no, no, the thing that it made me think of is it made me think of like, just awkward moments and things that just, I don't know, just in some ways seemed like they might not be right. And it made me think of your massage and it made me wonder did the massage therapists do any Reiki on you?
00:16:03.330 --> 00:16:13.649
Know, but the acupuncturist said that he also practices Reiki but I don't he didn't do any on me.
00:16:08.580 --> 00:16:31.679
I'm usually I've had people when they are like, I don't know if it's licensed or whatever in Reiki, or that's their specification, what the what am I trying to say? That's they're trying to say like, is it their specialty? Yeah, their specialty? Um, usually I find that they ask if that's okay.
00:16:28.320 --> 00:16:41.639
Yeah. Which is interesting, because it's a very, it feels like yoga did 10 years ago. of like, Oh, I'm not the devil. But I know how to do Reiki. Yeah.
00:16:42.299 --> 00:16:47.159
Yeah, most definitely. Why don't you explain what it is? For people who haven't heard of it?
00:16:47.190 --> 00:17:03.840
I mean, I can try. I'm not trained in it. And I would like to be at some point in time. But that's just not been a part of my studies yet. My understanding is that it's what they call an energetic modality, which I guess all the modalities are energetic, because you're, you have energy, and so does the person you're working on, hopefully, if they're not dead.
00:17:03.840 --> 00:18:02.220
So my understanding is that it is a modality that utilizes, you know, kind of the energetic fields between the two people between the practitioner and the client. And yet the practitioner is not always touching the client. So it's like, they might hold their hand, you know, about an inch above your forehead, or they might wave their hand above your head and, and, supposedly, and I believe, and now science has proven that there are things that are energetically happening when we do that much like you bring two magnets together. You know, there's there's something that's happening there. The whole point that I brought Becky up for, though, is that Becky was telling me the other day, that she was approached by someone who offered to perform Reiki on her and she was like, I just don't know, I just have never experienced that. I don't know if I'm comfortable with it.
00:18:02.400 --> 00:19:13.829
And so it got us talking about our backgrounds and religious trauma. And you know, she's a pastor's kid. And so she said, you know, she goes cat, can you explain is Reiki kind of like the modern day version of laying on of hands? And I said well, I said I really don't know again cuz I don't know a ton about Reiki I just I have a very, very, not super educated idea of what it is. And I think also the same like in laying on of hands back in our like charismatic church days. You know, I remember people saying, may I put my hands on you, like, may I, you know, pray for you or whatever it is. within it got us to talking about how, when she was younger, when people would become slain in the spirit, she was given these little blue blankets to cover people with and she just thought that the blue blanket to cover people with was just to keep them warm because they had like, been slain by the Holy Spirit and so they're laying on the floor of the church and they must need a blanket to keep them warm and she said she was almost an adult before she understood that those blankets were actually modesty blankets. Do you remember modesty blankets?
00:19:13.920 --> 00:19:22.920
I have never heard of this modesty blanket. You have not heard of a modesty blanket.
00:19:22.950 --> 00:19:40.440
Wait You mean like a what like a mom falls over on the spirit and she's wearing like a pencil skirt? Yeah afraid her pantyhose are gonna be seen are you actually like covering their heads instead of their body?
00:19:41.519 --> 00:19:42.960
Like she was watching?
00:19:48.089 --> 00:20:16.109
I've never you guys are Sam like I like Christian. And so we're not late like teenager but I was not around any slaying. The spirits Okay, well, I did now you and I need to go have this experience together most if no, no, no, no, I'm already very uncomfortable right now. Like I just I literally just put my legs together. I wasn't being modest and I was gonna get a blue blanket.
00:20:16.140 --> 00:20:39.779
Right, right. I'm glad you put your legs together. If Barry over here was slain in the spirit, and she's wearing a skirt, you know, supposedly she is she has been slain and and is in some sort of state that I'm going to think in my current day thinking is just like being in kind of a meditative trance. You know, I think that that's what it is.
00:20:40.049 --> 00:20:55.349
Yeah, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, why not compare that? I just think I think that is okay. Do you believe that people fall over?
00:20:50.190 --> 00:21:00.869
Because they have been hit by the Holy Spirit? Well, I did probably 20 different times.
00:20:56.730 --> 00:21:15.839
I mean, I just don't I don't know. But I don't really know, if I was just going along with what I thought was supposed to happen. You know, I think there's all this pressure of like, this is the way that the story goes. I do this and you fall over? Listen, I am a bit for every pastor.
00:21:17.220 --> 00:21:18.359
What do you mean by that?
00:21:18.420 --> 00:21:37.710
Because you know, me, I don't do anything. I mean, I just like I've had people walk up to me and like, do like that. You know, and I'm just like, my eyes are like this. And I'm like, I got nothing for you. brah. Like everybody gets like, I'm telling you, they don't want to come towards me. And they always do.
00:21:37.740 --> 00:21:40.259
Yeah, like they totally sense all of my sense. Oh, yeah.
00:21:40.259 --> 00:22:26.609
Like, no. It has everything to do with I think they are drawn to your energy of like, it's a challenge. You know, you're an eight, your challenger, you know, and it's like, Okay, if we can get a challenger somebody like St. Peter, for example, to believe in this, then it's like, that's gonna influence 10s of 1000s, if not millions of people. So of course, they're drawn to you. My whole point being is that Becky and I were having this conversation. We were talking about how there are so many things that went on, and that still do go on in the evangelical and charismatic movement. For example, spirit flags. Did you ever experience spirit flags?
00:22:26.910 --> 00:23:05.700
Oh, gosh, I could tell you a story. So I didn't know what those were. I'd never been around that. And then I went to a church that was a client and saw like, oh, sometimes people wave lags behind you. And they also paint like, that's the whole thing to like, in the picture, like the exorcist, and if they spin it three times, and look at it upside down, it looks like Jesus. Yeah, I've seen that too. Yeah. And I think Jesus does that for them. But anyway, I was in London for this big conference called the Jesus conference. And it was it was a cool little church in London.
00:23:06.210 --> 00:23:44.220
Um, but, uh, once I realized it was, you know, pretty charismatic event I was going to, I really like was, you know, felt my walls coming up a little. It's a really cool event. But anyway, I said as a joke when I came into the church, like, try immediately, you know, I sort of give myself away as the critic, you know, because I'm walking in looking like, I'm scared to death. But anyway, I said, when I walked in there, you know, if anyone hands me a flag, it's over. I'll just faint, and it's too much for me.
00:23:41.220 --> 00:24:07.109
Anyway, this girl from the church was like, haha, and I knew his suit like we locked I and I knew she was gonna bring me a flag at some point during the week. Yeah. And they handed me a flag and I was like, I refused. I was like, I am not there. Like, just let the Lord lead. I'm like, I am not feeling led to wave a flag. If I had I would have been in what is it called?
00:24:09.329 --> 00:24:30.509
The flag battalion or the color guard truck drag. Good. Not drag. I would have been a drag queen. I think I was a drag queen in a former life. I think you were Do I really do I love to sing I love to write songs. And I'm not like some Beethoven but I think I was secretly a drag queen.
00:24:30.720 --> 00:24:47.430
Yeah, and I could totally get on board with that. I on the other hand, would feel like I was being given the lightsaber by like Luke Skywalker himself. If someone at a church were to hand me a spirit flag.
00:24:47.579 --> 00:24:48.329
No way.
00:24:48.329 --> 00:24:56.099
Oh, like man. Oh, wait, maybe you're like adorable. I just accepted Jesus into my heart.
00:24:53.279 --> 00:24:56.099
That's what I'm talking about.
00:24:56.130 --> 00:25:03.900
Oh, okay. Yes, right now if someone hands you a flag, you You your butt cheeks would get tight and your knees would lock.
00:25:03.930 --> 00:25:06.299
And you would be like, why don't you fly?
00:25:06.329 --> 00:25:24.029
Let me tell you the difference between the season of life that you are in right now in the season of life that I find myself in right now. The season of life that I find myself in right now, I would not be in a situation to be handed a spirit flag.
00:25:24.599 --> 00:25:26.730
Man, you'll be surprised I wouldn't put that out there.
00:25:27.000 --> 00:27:45.029
people listening right now. Some of them names rhyme with and they will find a way to put a spear flag in your hand. I will not put that challenge out there really, you know what we should do it for for our patrons? Yeah, we should just have like in this was, like I said back to I did have an original point is I thought it would be great to interview Becky on the podcast about some of the interesting things that happen in the evangelical and charismatic church like modesty blankets, like spirit flags, like being slain in the spirit, and talk about how that culture has become what it has become, and how maybe for some people like that is absolutely healing and something that like, has been transformative for them. And then also talk about how that could be the absolute source of trauma. You know, it's like your mom's that front being prayed for and then she falls on the floor, like how that's scary, like, Have I ever told you like, the only time I like growing up was around anything like that, um, we, I think we would go to like an after school program at this, like school that was also attached to this charismatic church. And I didn't know anything about it. And in the aftercare, they didn't really talk about that. But my mom was like, invited multiple times by people to come to the church. So we decided one Sunday, we're going there. And truly, there was a guy that got down on all fours, barking, like, Oh, I can't even make it up. I was like, I was young. I was like, somewhere between six and eight years old. And we're standing there people are like raising their hands and worshiping and people literally start people start doing the shakes and stuff like that. And next thing, you know, the guy right by me was like, I literally jumped in my dog. I was like, I remember just getting my mom's arms and being like, this is the scariest place I've ever been. And I feel that way again.
00:27:46.470 --> 00:29:07.799
Yeah, it's like things just keep coming back around, don't keep going back around, until we learn more and more and more about how to how to face those kinds of things. And also want to be really respectful to have people who like that as a regular part of their everyday life. And it's like, okay, I want to be able to respect it and not judge it just like, I don't want to judge some of the stuff that I'm into right now, that I think is really cool. At the same time. I do think that when we go outside of what general society thinks is, you know, quote, unquote, normal behavior, like I think to think that that doesn't have the ability to make an impact on us, I think is a little bit short sighted. And I just want to say one more thing and what you said about laying your hands on people. I don't think that's okay. And I've done it. So like, hear me, like, you know, when I've prayed for people, like I've done all of that. But I think at some point, we have to ask what makes people in the church feel comfortable? And maybe some people just freaking love that, like, that's community? And that's connection and all these things. But can we agree in a post COVID world, like, just do the whole hand reach across the room situation?
00:29:03.299 --> 00:29:12.119
Because people don't want to be touched? Unless you ask them?
00:29:07.799 --> 00:29:43.109
Can I touch you? So and So saying, Can I lay hands on you from now on, you should say, Can I touch you? Which is weird, and probably will keep you from touching me? Yeah, that is really strange. And now that I've been studying what I've been studying for the past couple of years, I know that legally in the state of Tennessee, like you are not allowed to touch someone therapeutically without a license. So really, if someone said, Hey, can I lay hands on you can say Can you show me your license, which that would be awkward?
00:29:43.559 --> 00:29:52.380
I would just say no, keep your hands in your pocket. Like, I mean, I'm sorry. But where did that come from? Was that in the Bible? I think so.
00:29:52.380 --> 00:30:16.500
Yeah. I think it was like when Jesus laid his hands on Oh, that's right. You know, like we hit the when he did like the mud in the eyes and stuff. I mean, there were see a lot of times where Jesus his touch was very significant. And so I definitely can see how like as a society over time that we've made that our own thing that is probably 65 degrees differently than how it was when Jesus did it. But hey, what do I know?
00:30:16.619 --> 00:30:47.700
Well, I'm sure there's many politicians who asked the question, can I lay hands on you? Oh, gosh, way to bring it home. Okay, so I was talking to my mom last night, my mom and I took a class together this weekend. And it was really awesome. We took a class on the five elements theory, which is something that is associated with Taoist philosophy and ancient Chinese medicine. And it basically, is something that kind of fits hand in hand with some of the body work stuff that I'm learning.
00:30:44.670 --> 00:32:08.789
And it's not weird Voodoo. It's not anything other than just the study of things that ancient people discovered back in ancient times that are now being kind of resurfaced. And people are realizing more and more, and it's becoming more popularized, that these modalities are things that are actually helpful and healing. And then on top of that, because of modern technology, they're things that can scientifically be proven to have a healing effect. And so I think that's why there's kind of a bit more of an insurgence of people being open to Hey, I'm cool. If you think my fire element is out of balance, if you want to figure out how to get my grandmother have what I guess would be water, or no wood, or whatever, I don't remember cuz I was my brain so full from the class. But anyway, it was a really, really cool class and a really cool experience. And so afterwards, my mom and I came home, and we just had hours of talk time on the couch, you know, and it really, it made me think of you and we actually talked about you a lot and how much I think you miss your mom and how I just feel so fortunate that I still have my mom here in this present body with me. And she said to me, can I ask you a question about the podcast? Gosh, here we go. And I was like, Yes. Oh, hold on. Let me breathe. Okay.
00:32:09.569 --> 00:33:56.460
And so I said, Yes. And she goes, What? What are the quirks of being human? Everything we talk about? Well, and that's what I said to you. I said, Well, Mom, I said every part of life to me is the quirks of being human. And so my first example, was, I said, let me tell you what I think one of the quirks of being human is, is that I have this trash can, that the lid has been almost broken off of the trash can. It's one of the outdoor ones, the city picks up every week. And the lid has just been hanging on by a thread for months. And so I keep just thinking one of these days when the trash truck picks it up, the lids just gonna stay in the trash truck and the trash can is going to come back without a lid and I will have disposed of the lid and not having to take place in the airspace in the trash can. And so my mom, you know, was nodding, she was following with me. And I said, so I said last week, the lid finally broke in the trash truck swallowed up the lid of my trash can. I said so now I have a trash can without a lid that I keep throwing my trash in. And we've been having these torrential rains. And so now my trash can is full of water and weighs 600,000 pounds, and is making trash soup. Day in and day out. And now there are flies, maggots and awful things happening. I said, Mom, that is a quirk of being human, every single one of us have to take our trash out. You know, if you've got the technology and the ability to be listening to this podcast, then you are evolved enough and civilized enough that you probably have a trash can. And so to me, I said that is a perk of being human.
00:33:53.099 --> 00:35:27.510
And she goes well she goes, I guess I just don't understand how y'all figure out what you're going to talk about. And so I showed her my notebook for the podcast and I said I bring up six or seven things that have impacted me in the past week that just made me think Megan, sometimes it's really weird, or really awesome, or really hard or really fascinating, or really devastating to be a person, you know, and that's what we talked about on the podcast. So I thought our listeners might enjoy hearing. How do you prepare for the podcast? Oh, that's really good. So for me, I keep my notes in my phone. So every week I start a new note called podcast. And so I literally have hundreds now. And every time I'm saying like anytime something happens in the week, and it's most of the time I'm writing down interesting things that like I learned that I think our listeners would love to hear about, um, often we get stuff sent to us from from listeners, which is super cool. Which I want to share one from Maisie here in a second. And yeah, for me It's usually like things I picked up in therapy or, you know, you know, some bullshit situation I had to deal with, you know, with like a mechanic or something like, I'm just always thinking about, like those wheat to experiences where people like hear as they're like, Oh my God, I've been through the same thing. You know, like, I think our goal is to create connection between those quirky things and how they affect us emotionally.
00:35:27.690 --> 00:36:29.010
Yeah. And it's interesting mission accomplished to me, because this weekend at the class I was in, one of our listeners was in that class, and his name is awesome, Adam, and I love awesome. I only know him from his voicemail. Oh, man, he's so great. And he really, really wants to be on the podcast. So we're gonna make that happen. I think Becky needs to happen. I think awesome. Adam needs to happen. And I think they could have regularly rotating spots on the podcast, because these people have really quirky lives as well. And he was telling me, he said, cat, he goes, I sit in my car, and I talk to you guys. Like, I just talked to you guys. And I'm answering you, and I'm talking to you. And sometimes I'm yelling at you and going like, Come on, guys, you know, and I said, that's it. We're going for exactly what we're going for. So if you're one of those listeners out there, thank you for listening. Thank you being for being a part of fulfilling cat and moose and producer Sarah's dreams. And we really appreciate you listening. What in the world did Maisie say?
00:36:29.489 --> 00:36:54.000
She's awesome. By the way, she always sends like quirky stuff to us. But this one was really meaningful. And I put it in my notes this week to share. It's, it's from the happy Slav club, to give them credit. And it says a friendly reminder that it's not your responsibility to be a version of yourself that you don't resonate with anymore.
00:36:50.070 --> 00:37:03.510
Just because people are more comfortable with who you used to be, Oh, you don't have to take steps back in your growth or relive what you've outgrown.
00:37:03.840 --> 00:37:07.050
Just to keep certain connections alive.
00:37:07.380 --> 00:37:09.179
How old do you think Maisie is?
00:37:09.809 --> 00:37:20.940
Well, I know I have done some digging Maisie. I have secretly socked you. It wasn't really secret. I'm guessing you're like your soul says you're like 40.
00:37:17.400 --> 00:37:21.750
But I think you're like in your late 20s.
00:37:22.050 --> 00:37:35.610
She's in her early 20s. Oh my gosh, she just moved into her first owned home. She's amazing.
00:37:26.670 --> 00:37:46.650
Amazing. Amazing. And I also think that she is wise beyond her years. Like I consider her one of my newest and dearest friends. Like she's really become a close friend. And I think that she has got wisdom.
00:37:46.860 --> 00:37:52.019
well beyond her years and more and more. It makes me go like I do think reincarnation is a thing.
00:37:52.590 --> 00:38:09.300
I do too. Oh my gosh, I really really do. I I it's so funny. I have been I think the thing they forget to tell you sorry. My brain just went the thing they forget to tell you well, first of all shit.
00:38:10.320 --> 00:38:57.210
Come back. Oh, honey. Oh, okay, I need adult learning. You know how on a cruise ship. They just announced shit. So there'll be like, hey, at four o'clock come over for the fancy wine tasting. You know, prices apply or whatever. I feel like if we are in The Truman Show, that there should be announcements like, hey, for those of you turning 40 This will be a decade of undoing many things and redoing many things. And what was my point? I'm not sure. I'm not either. Oh, that we are reincarnated? Because here's the thing about your 40s is like it's not just full on breakdown.
00:38:57.329 --> 00:39:18.809
It's legitimately coming face to face with. You're not gonna be here forever. Right. Right. And like I say that sort of jokingly, but it really hits you face to face like I don't know it. You know, people joke like it's midlife. Oh, it's not only midlife, but shit stops working.
00:39:18.869 --> 00:40:22.500
Right? Right. Yeah, like I was having a conversation. I had my mom and one of my friends over this morning and they were kind enough to participate in Paul Dan ghoom with me. She Gong the seven silken movements of Qigong. And, and I was saying something in my kind of guiding of the exercise practice this morning, I said, and now we're going to do the last move, which one of the great teachers calls the desert of Qigong and we're going to raise our hands up, and we're going to let our hands fall to the ground and we're going to let them shake over our feet, all of which hurt I know because all three of us have feet that hurt. And one of us was 71 of us was 54. And there was me that's 45 in all of us have feet that hurt, you know, and it's like, man, something about clicking over into that decade of 40. It's like, there is pain that is totally unexplained. It's just not fair.
